107.8 Academy FM is a community radio station based at the Marlowe Academy in Ramsgate, broadcasting to the whole of the Isle of Thanet and beyond. It has been set up to not only to play Thanet’s Better Music Mix and provide lots of local information to our audience, but also as a facility to offer students and the community a unique insight into radio broadcasting. 107.8 Academy FM provides practical learning opportunities and work experience for the students and the community, to encourage them to acquire and develop many ‘life skills’ - through the medium of radio, which will be useful in other areas of employment.

107.8 Academy FM is NOT a Commercial Radio Station, we are a non-profit company set up to serve the community of Thanet. We rely on the generosity of the local business community for Donations and Charitable Trusts for Grants, to ensure that we have the necessary funding to continue operating and provide entertainment, local news and information and of course the learning and development opportunities for the students and the community in Thanet.

Because our transmission area overlaps radio stations KMFM and Heart FM, Ofcom rules prohibit any paid for on-air advertising and sponsorship of programmes on 107.8 Academy FM. This is in respect of any community radio service where that service overlaps with any other local radio services serving between 50,000 and 150,000 persons, of 15 years or older.

However whilst 107.8 Academy FM are NOT allowed to have any paid for on-air advertising or sponsorship, we are not asking anyone for a donation without providing something in return and through our website www.academyfmthanet.com - there will be numerous opportunities to support 107.8 Academy FM, whilst at the same time gaining valuable promotion and branding opportunities for your business.

The benefit of supporting 107.8 Academy FM, both in terms of how we are helping the local community and students of the Isle of Thanet, but you will also increase awareness of your business.
