On Air: Thanet After Dark
Horace was born in Dartford on the 21st September 1972 and moved to Broadstairs in 1974, because of his Dad's job. He went to Dame Janet School (Infants and Juniors) and in 1984 went to Conyngham School Ramsgate. At school Horace was very shy and would never stand on a stage ' Now you cant get him off one'.
Whilst at Conyngham School he would go to Invicta Radio Studios in Canterbury, where he would help the presenters with their promotions. Horace was an impressionist in those days and often appeared on Caesar's phone in show, as Margaret Thatcher, Prince Charles or Dame Edna. He also did voice overs for other radio stations and presenters including Pat Marsh at Radio Kent and Essex Radio. Horace left school and became a butcher working for his Dad in the Margate shop and that was a fantastic platform to try out his jokes and gain some confidence. Many of the customers said they only came in to the shop for the abuse and comedy, shopping was the sideline.
Then in 1991 Horace and three friends decided to set up a one month radio station called 'Hit FM' and Tony Simon and Horace went round to Pete Willsons house one Sunday and asked him if he would like to come and be on the radio. He said yes and then Truly Local Radio in Thanet was born. After two Special Event Licence's under the name of Hit FM we went our different ways Horace went with Pete and the TLR (Thanet Local Radio) group and did several one month broadcasts and was then employed at TLR, when they won the franchaise. Horace is now the resident DJ at the Fayreness Hotel and some nights can be found there behind the bar entertaining guests, as well as serving the odd drink.
Horace is in the office at 107.8 Academy FM during the week arranging competition prizes, Community Action bulletins and 'In the Armchair' interviews, then he pops in on a Sunday and host 'Horace's Palace of Fun' from 2pm.
